Sadiq Will Freeze and Lower Public Transport Fares

After the cost of housing, transport fares are one of the biggest costs that many households face, and can be a major barrier to getting on and making the most of the opportunities London offers. We need fares that are fairer and more affordable, while providing the revenue that TfL needs.

Our great city is at its best when we build for growth and for people, not just for now but for generations to come. Getting about will become harder unless we have a bigger vision of what we can achieve and work smarter. As Mayor of London, Sadiq will plan ahead for our growing city.

Freeze fares: All TfL Underground, DLR and Overground fares will be frozen for four years, paid for out of existing TfL budgets and efficiencies.

Cut bus fares: A first year cut and then a freeze in bus fares, and a change to the way ticketing works so that a single journey ticket is valid for a full hour including changes.

Taking more rail services under TfL control: Following the success of London Overground, and the expansion of TfL’s rail network to include commuter routes taken over from Anglia, Sadiq will push for TfL to take on more London commuter rail services.
