Branch Meetings

Branch meetings are the foundation of our party's democracy. It is your opportunity as a member to put forward your ideas, concerns and suggestions.

In Tottenham branch meetings take place on the 1st Wednesday of the month (except January (optional) and August). Your branch is dependent on what ward you live in. You should get notice of your branch meeting 7 days before the meeting. The time, venue and contact for your branch meeting is at the end of the page.

Below are some frequently asked questions:

How do I find what ward I live in?

Haringey Council has a handy ward checker based on your postcode - you can click here to access it

What happens at a Branch Meeting?

Branch meetings are what members make them and different based on what local members want. But usually:

  • You hear from your elected Councillors about what they have done in the ward
  • You discuss with your local Councillors areas of local concern
  • You may have a speaker on an issue or a Cabinet member to discuss a concern.
  • You or another branch member may submit a motion on a policy area they want sent to the party, Councillors or MP

Who can attend a Branch Meeting?

Any member of the ward, regardless of length of membership can attend and vote at a Branch Meeting

Can children attend?

Tottenham CLP operate a child-friendly policy at their meetings and you can bring your children - although no creche is provided. If they are 14 or over they can also join the party from as little as £1 a year

I don't know anyone in my branch

Don't worry, we've all been there. You may want to email your branch secretary and ask to call them or meet them beforehand. The Chair, Secretary and Treasurer of your branch are members, just like you.

I don't feel like I know a lot about policy to attend

It doesn't matter - our party is more interested to hear about your experiences and outlook on local, regional and national issues. Branch meetings are a great place to learn from each other.

I don't think I can attend every month

That is ok, attend when you can. Sadly your branch cannot make decisions if less than 10% of the members are not in the meeting. But it is optional to attend.
